Tropical storm KENNETH (24S) located 195km north-northwest of Diego Suarez is approaching the Comoros, Grande Comore island, the largest island in the nation of Comoros Kenneth is expected to intensify significantly over the next two days and represents a serious potential threat for the Comoros especially for Grande Comore.
Kenneth is heading west. The initial downpours will arrive Tuesday night; however, the heaviest rainfall is expected from Wednesday into Wednesday night Powerful thunderstorms bringing heavy rains and gusty winds. These storms swell to exceed 15 kilometers of altitude.Kenneth may strengthen into a tropical cyclone or intense tropical cyclone, producing 75-150 mm (3-6 inches) of rainfall and damaging winds. Wind gusts up to 130 km/h (80 mph) will be possible across the islands.
Dangerous seas will batter the island’s coastal locations Tuesday night into Thursday.Mayotte may dodge the worst conditions as the strengthening storm tracks north of the island, bringing 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) of rainfall and gusty winds.
Kenneth is expected to move toward the border of Mozambique and Tanzania. The area in which the storm is forecast to track, has very warm sea surface temperatures that will allow the storm to strengthen over the next couple of days. Kenneth is forecast to make landfall in extreme northern Mozambique in the Cabo Delgado Providence on 25 April 2019.
