Did you know? In 1933, in Portuguese-ruled Mozambique, a boy named Samora Machel was born into oppression.
But he would grow up to become one of Africa’s fiercest freedom fighters.
As a young man, Machel saw how Africans were abused under colonial rule.
He left his job as a nurse and joined the liberation movement called FRELIMO.
By the 1960s, Samora Machel was leading guerrilla fighters against Portuguese forces deep in the forests of Mozambique.
After years of war, victory finally came in 1975.
Mozambique became independent… and Samora Machel became its first president.
He pushed for education, healthcare, and African unity.
But his socialist policies and support for anti-apartheid movements made him many enemies.
Then in 1986, tragedy struck.
Samora Machel died in a mysterious plane crash near the South African border.
To this day, many Africans remember him not just as a president…
but as a symbol of resistance, courage, and liberation. #africanhistory #shorts #mozambique #samoramachel #history #frelimo
