Ten Day Forecast: Hints Of Cold Zonality For Second Half Of January?
Descrição
Hello everyone and thanks for tuning in to today's video. We're going to look at the weather for the next ten to fourteen days for this video. Day ten will take us to the seventeenth of January - and we'll be able to extend out beyond that with the extended GFS and ECM ensembles (they run to around a couple of weeks)
Low pressure will dominate the weather through to the middle and second half of the month so the Atlantic onslaught continues. Looking further ahead we may see signs of a cooler variety of Atlantic driven weather with "cold zonality" bringing a risk of snow at times to the north though southern regions are most likely to get lots of cold rain. Meanwhile in the stratosphere we may have increasing signals of cold an SSW (Sudden Stratospheric Warming) event taking place at 10hpa over the north pole towards the final week of January. This video will bring you up to date with all the latest stratospheric developments...

Just Watched the big snow of 82 on channel 5, I remember this winter so well the depth of snow and drifting has never been surpassed since where I live, probably only feb 1991 comes close. The models are starting to look better for cold at last, fingers crossed for a colder second half of January.

An interesting quote from Brian Gaze the other day "An SSW is always just around the next corner in Winter". This seems to describe what is currently happening. As each week passes, the models push significant warming back a week.

Thanks Gav fingers crossed for that cold zonality into the 2nd half of January, but even if it doesn't come off just proves those people who write of the winter after 3 weeks are always wrong.

Cold Zonalty would be good. Long overdue some big waves down the North Sea.

The true "daddy of cold winters" is 1683/84 with an overall CET of -1.2°C. 1962/63 had a CET of -0.3°C.

Hopefully a break from this eternal wind, had my fill of having to wedge doors to stop then repeatedly banging! Wouldn't mind a calm sea either! Just 72 days till Spring

Very interesting update with the ten day forecast which takes us to Tuesday, January 17th, 2023. Very cold air bottled up over the polar region at 10 hPa. Getting closer to home the Atlantic onslaught continues with heavy bouts of rain and strong winds barreling in from off the North Atlantic Ocean and heading our way into Ireland and the UK and giving us a real soaking. Anyway once again I enjoyed the video and it's contents I found it very interesting and informative.

Fed up with all this rain and wind now, I hope we get a drier and more seasonal feel towards the end of January going into February
