The Guna People: Thriving in Panama’s Caribbean Coast | SLICE | FULL DOCUMENTARY
Descrição
Four hundred years ago, the Kuna people fled the mountains of northern Colombia to escape the advancing conquistadors. Seeking refuge, they settled on a string of islands scattered across the Caribbean Sea. Once a people of the land, they became a people of the sea—adapting their way of life to preserve their culture and traditions.
Today, the Kuna live on the San Blas archipelago along Panama’s coast, where their deep connection to the ocean shapes every aspect of their daily lives. Traveling aboard an oulou, the traditional Kuna canoe, they navigate between islands, harvesting the sea’s bounty and passing down their ancestral knowledge. But this fragile paradise faces a growing threat: rising sea levels inch closer every year, putting their entire way of life at risk.

I live in Panama and have been to San Blas. It’s like untouched by time. And the Guna people are kind, fun-loving and welcoming. Thanks for this - I love learning about the indigenous tribes here in Panama ☺️

Very aware of modern flaws in outside society but also holding their culture strong. I hope their island continues to survive.

I recently stayed at the village Gan Igar for a film project, but didn't spend much time on the islands. I loved seeing their traditions and connections to the natural world.
