Japan battles extreme heat with night shifts and human fridges
Descrição
Heat stress is rising worldwide as human-induced climate change makes extremely high temperatures more frequent and severe, and Japan is adapting to a new reality of dangerous summer heat. At one flower farm, workers now harvest at night under greenhouse lights after a colleague suffered heatstroke. In a single week last month, more than 10,800 people were treated for heatstroke, double the number from the same period in 2025. In Osaka, warehouse worker Taichi Konishi cools down by stepping into what's effectively a human refrigerator: "It feels really good. I only went in for about two minutes, but even that was enough for all my sweat to dry up."

It is ridiculous wearing British style suits in hot Asian monsoon climates! Glad to see this common sense here!

I really like how considerate Japanese are, they respond well and really think with their "minds"!

Three weeks or of 110F/43C degree or higher heat here, I lost count. As I age I can only be out in the heat for a max of five minutes. Its that crippling.

I have a chronic illness, I am mostly bedbound. During our heatwave I wasn’t able to get out of bed till after 9 or 10m and was eating midnight, going back to bed 6am . Its the only way I was able to function, eat etc. Honestly I struggle if it goes over 21° So when it was over 35° and night time bedroom still 26° it was unbearable. I understand other countries have higher temperature but our homes in uk are not designed to the changing climate and my illness doesn't regulate body temperature same as normal person. Honestly I can't imagine what it will be like in another 5 years time

This report emphasizes Japan is hottest climete tendency. But this summer, Though West Japan is hottest tendency, East Japan is not so hot as last summer. In Japan, El Niño has a tendency lawer than average temperature. So Tokyoites are not expericnced hard summer this season.
