France continues to suffer from unbelievably severe storms!

Thunderstorms are breaking out over a large part of the North-West and a large part of the South-East this Wednesday, August 17. Météo France has placed nine departments on orange vigilance for thunderstorms, this Wednesday August 17, 2022 at 7 p.m., after having lifted vigilance in three departments in the north of the country.
In Pas-de-Calais, from Normandy to Maine, near the Mediterranean and in the Center East, violent storms sometimes occurred, accompanied by intense showers, strong gusts of wind, warned Météo France. In the English Channel, the storm notably caused waterspouts and cascading floods: “We had the impression that the sky was falling on our heads”, testified the inhabitants.
In the Rhône-Alpes region, violent storms crossed the surroundings of Saint-Etienne and Lyon. Gusts up to 130 km / h and heavy hail were observed, notes Météo France.
Heavy flooding occurred in particular on Wednesday afternoon in Feyzin, south of Lyon, where streets are flooded with muddy water, reports a meteorologist. As well as at the Mornant station, about twenty kilometers away, up to 50.2 mm of rain fell in an hour, he adds.
Very large accumulations of hail were also observed in Saint-Étienne on Wednesday afternoon where the temperature dropped from 26.2 degrees Celsius to 15.5 degrees Celsius, adds the meteorologist.
To the north of Saint-Étienne, streets have also turned into veritable rivers, as in Étrat, in the Loire.
On the Southeast, a stormy wave started in the early afternoon. No less than 54 mm of water fell in one hour on the Garde-Freinet side and gusts of 107 km / h were recorded at the Dramont semaphore, according to Météo France.
Corsica was placed Thursday morning and until 11:00 a.m. in orange vigilance by Météo-France, which had announced "strong storms in progress on the west coast with very strong gusts". "An exceptional gust at 224 km / h has just been measured at the Marignana station (about thirty kilometers from Sagone, editor's note) on an exposed part of the west coast" of the island, had announced Météo France on its Twitter account at 8:30 a.m.
The storms left the island towards Italy at the end of the morning, specified Météo-France which lifted the orange vigilance. The wind has become weak again over a large majority of Corsica, added the meteorological institute.
Some 45,000 homes are without electricity on the Mediterranean island, EDF-Corsica told AFP.
