Cyclone Dikeledi Landfall Update as 100mph winds strike Mozambique

Cyclone Dikeledi Landfall Update as 100mph winds strike Mozambique

Cyclone Dikeledi strengthened considerably earlier today, and in the last couple of hours made landfall in Mozambique, in Nampula province. The storm is slowly moving inland, and is likely to lose a fair bit of strength as it does so. The storm is dropping heavy rain over the area, with strong winds of up to 100 miles per hour. Flash flooding is likely in the region, particularly if the storm moves further inland.

The future intensity of Dikeledi hinges upon how long it remains over or near land, with its restrengthening phase limited if the storm weakens considerably as it stalls over the coastline. Some strengthening is expected as the storm drops through the Mozambique Channel later this week, and affects the western coast of Madagascar later on. Storm force winds are expected there, along with more heavy rainfall of up to 250mm.
