Descrição

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Sunday, September 6, 2026 — Los Angeles County lifeguards assisted a woman who appeared to be in need of medical attention beneath the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday morning as rain fell across the coastline.

According to information gathered at the scene, a passerby flagged down Los Angeles County lifeguards and alerted them to a woman beneath the pier who appeared to require assistance.

Lifeguards responded to the area, contacted the woman and helped her into the rear of a Los Angeles County lifeguard rescue vehicle. She was then transported from beneath the pier to Ocean Front Walk, where a Santa Monica Fire Department ambulance was standing by.

Paramedics took over care of the woman and transported her for further medical evaluation. The nature of the medical emergency was not immediately known.

The response unfolded during an unusually wet Sunday morning in Santa Monica. The National Weather Service reported rain and mist in the area, with tropical moisture associated with Hurricane Marie expected to bring periods of rain to Los Angeles County through Sunday evening. Marie was forecast to remain well offshore.

Beach conditions were also hazardous. A High Surf Advisory and Coastal Flood Advisory remain in effect through 11 p.m. Tuesday, with forecasters warning of large breaking waves, strong rip currents and the potential for coastal flooding along Los Angeles County beaches.

Sunday was expected to be the wettest day of the holiday weekend, with generally light rainfall across the region and the possibility of heavier rainfall near isolated thunderstorms.

Los Angeles County officials have urged beachgoers to remain alert to changing ocean and weather conditions as the tropical system continues to influence the Southern California coast.

Santa Monica Closeup was on scene documenting the response as lifeguards and paramedics assisted the woman during a rainy Sunday morning beneath the Santa Monica Pier.
