Tropical Disturbance a threat to Pacific Mexico - August 16, 2023
Descrição
It's another active day in the tropics with several systems active and plenty more potential in the coming days. An area of interest is located to the south of Mexico and could impact the Baja California peninsula this weekend or early next week, and could cause hurricane conditions for parts of the western coast. This system may continue northwards towards southern California with gale force winds and heavy rainfall. Current projections show that the maximum expected rainfall is around 8 inches (200mm), but this is expected to change as the forecast becomes clearer.
In the Western Pacific, a much weakened ex-Typhoon Lan is pulling away from central Japan to the north, and is on its last legs. The storm is expected to turn post-tropical soon, but will keep a fair structure and impact eastern Russia with gale force winds and locally heavy rainfall.
The long tracked Hurricane Dora is no more, failing to make much of itself in the Western Pacific in the end, and only partially completing a recurvature before succumbing to strong wind shear.
In the Central Pacific, Tropical Storm Greg persists although remains fairly week. To the east, Hurricane Fernanda has made its case well in the last 24 hours, and remains at Category 2 intensity despite fading favourability in its conditions. The storm is expected to weaken hastily in the next few days.
In the Atlantic, two areas of interest continue to draw attention, with chances increasing for a hurricane in the central and western Atlantic at the end of the week into next week.

Well one area in the Gulf has a 30% has to be watched, 60% for both MDR tropical waves in the Atlantic. A wave behind those two is going to come off the coast of Africa as well. The Atlantic's awakening and it isn't about what basin beats what basin, that sounds dumb

I'd be concerned if that system in the long range does hit the British Isles, we are definitely not ready for another Ophelia
