General situation:
1) A heavy rain watch remains in force in Mauritius, valid till 10h00 this morning.
2) Active clouds coming from the Northern sector are influencing the local weather.
Forecast for the next 24 hours:
Cloudy this morning with showers.
The showers may be moderate to locally heavy at times with thunderstorms.
The weather will improve during the day.
The maximum temperature will be between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius over the central plateau and between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius over the coastal regions.
Partly cloudy yto cloudy at times tonight with few showers mainly to the South and over the highgrounds.
The minimum temperature will be between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius over the central plateau and between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius along the coasts.
Wind will blow from the North-East at about 15 km/h, strengthening with gusts in showers.
Sea moderate beyond the reefs with swells of the order of 2 metres, becoming temporarily rough in thundery showers.
The public is advised to:
1. remain in safe places and avoid open areas, hikings, sea ventures and sheltering under trees during thundery showers.
2. avoid places prone to water accumulation.
3. be very cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility resulting from heavy rains and fog patches.
Supplementary information:
The tropical depression which was evolving in the Mozambique Channel has intensified into a moderate tropical storm during the night. It has been named “FYTIA” by the meteorological services of Madagascar.
At 0400 hours this morning, it was centered about the point 15.6 degrees South in latitude and 42.4 degrees East in longitude and and is quasi-stationary.
High tides: 11h14 and tomorrow 01h02.
Low tides: 06h01 and 18h20.
