Tuesday April 28, 2026 — Daily Forecast Australia with Lisa (and Mia is back by popular demand!).

Today's main weather story is showers and thunderstorms across southwest Western Australia, alongside persistent coastal showers along the Queensland and northern New South Wales coastlines. A trough moving into the southwest is driving scattered and at times active storm development from Geraldton and Jurien Bay inland toward Merredin, Kalgoorlie and down toward Esperance, with some activity expected to persist into tomorrow morning. Storm development today will be hit-and-miss and difficult to pinpoint, so expect conditions to vary significantly even over short distances across the southwest.

Along the Queensland coast, strong wind warnings remain active from the Cooktown Coast all the way down through Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Capricornia and the K'gari Coast. Down in Tasmania, a Gale Warning is current for the South East and South West Coasts, with Strong Wind Warnings for the Channel, Lower East Coast and Central West Coast — a notably windier day for the Apple Isle.

Temperatures today range from 31 degrees at Weipa, Normanton and Warburton, down to 13 degrees at Strathgordon in Tasmania. Perth reaches 21 degrees under cloud and showers, while Adelaide sees a pleasant 23 degrees in the early afternoon.

Rainfall accumulation over the next 24 hours is focused offshore along the Queensland coast and inland through the southwest WA rain band. The three-day outlook keeps that pattern consistent, with the strongest signals remaining across southwest WA and the Queensland coastal fringe. Model confidence is good on the location of these rainfall zones, though localised totals under thunderstorms remain uncertain.
