🌀230km/h Cyclone Batsirai approaches Mauritius and Réunion, flooding beaches 🇲🇺🇫🇷 February 2 2022

Looking at the impact of Tropical Cyclone Batsirai as it approaches the islands of Mauritius and Réunion on February 2nd 2022.

Wind speeds of over 230 kilometers per hour were recorded as the Category 4 Cyclone intensified in the Indian Ocean.

The eye of the Cyclone is expected to pass to the North of Mauritius and Réunion, however strong winds are already causing an impact.

Heavy winds caused tidal surges in coastal areas, flooding beaches. Seafarers were warned of the threat of rough seas as winds increased.

Residents were advised not to leave their homes, with warnings in place across most districts.

The Cyclone follows the impact of Tropical Storm Ana, which made over 100,000 people homeless in Madagascar, Mozambique and Malawi.

The Cyclone is expected to make landfall in Madagascar in the coming days, as fears of further damage grows, with the potential of severe damage in South Africa also predicted.
