On the night of January 8–9, 2026, France was rocked by Storm Goretti. Its strength was "exceptional," according to forecasters from Météo France. On the English Channel coast, wind gusts reached approximately 200 km/h (124 mph). A record gust of 213 km/h (133 mph) was recorded in Barfleur. This was an unprecedented figure for the region. The storm swept through Brittany, then Normandy, and reached Île-de-France.
