How One Mistake Led To The Death Of Samora Machel – The First President Of Mozambique

19/09/2026 · Africon Productions

Descrição

On October 19, 1986, a presidential flight carrying Samora Machel—the founding President of Mozambique and an iconic anti-colonial leader—crashed into the Mbuzini mountains near the South African border.

Was it a fatal navigation error caused by bad weather and outdated equipment, or a calculated assassination orchestrated by South Africa’s Apartheid regime using a decoy radio beacon?

In this documentary, we unpack the final flight of the Tupolev Tu-134, the investigation behind the crash, the political tension between Mozambique and Apartheid South Africa, and the one critical mistake that changed the political landscape of Southern Africa forever.

I don't believe it was a mistake. Because had he lived to this day, imagine what he could've done to dismantle the apartheid regime. provided that he had been labelled an adversary to the Apartheid regime. All the while liberating Mozambique from Portuguese colonial rule
