How Did Portugal and Spain Never Become One Country? 🇵🇹🇪🇸🤯
Descrição
How did Portugal and Spain never become one country? 🇵🇹🇪🇸 They share the same peninsula, similar languages, and over 1,000 years of history. For centuries, Spain tried to swallow Portugal — and failed every single time. So how did Portugal stay independent? You see, Portugal was born as a rebel province. In 1139, a nobleman named Afonso Henriques declared himself the first King of Portugal, breaking away from the Kingdom of León 👑 Spain recognized Portugal's independence in 1143. But Spain never fully accepted it. In 1580, the Portuguese king died with no heir. The Spanish king Philip II invaded and became king of both countries. This union lasted 60 years. Portugal lost territories, colonies, and respect. Then in 1640, Portuguese nobles revolted. They crowned a Portuguese king and fought a 28-year war for independence. Portugal won 🔥 Then came 1807. Napoleon demanded Portugal join his blockade of Britain. Portugal refused. France invaded. The Portuguese royal family fled to Brazil and ran the empire from across the Atlantic for 13 years 🚢 After Napoleon fell, Portugal returned to independence. Over the centuries, Portugal built one of the largest empires in history — Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Macau 🌍 Today, Portugal and Spain are peaceful neighbors. But every attempt to unify them has ended in blood. One peninsula, two nations — forever separate. 🇵🇹🇪🇸🗺️ #portugal #spain #geography #maps #history #iberian #shorts

Portugal existed before Spain helped Spain gain its freedom and trade with Spain for nearly 500 years ,Plus they have the longest alliance in history with Britain

I’ve always wondered this. I figured geography. The fun part, for me at least, is that they were simply different human tribes. You know, like Andora or the Castilians. They managed to keep themselves separate which is so cool to me. And at its foundation, people crossed the Sistema mountain range and said ‘no’ to the tribes of people that didn’t cross. And they did so for thousands of years. Not even the Romans figured it out. Fascinating
