🇲🇿 Is the world ignoring Mozambique's cyclone disasters? | Inside Story
Descrição
International donors slow to respond after two storms kill hundreds.
Mozambique is reeling from two of the strongest storms ever to hit the country.
Aid efforts were already stretched after Cyclone Idai in March which killed more than 600 people.
Then on Thursday Cyclone Kenneth made landfall, killing another 38.
Entire communities have been wiped out.
The UN says around two million people urgently need drinking water, food and medicine.
But international donors have been slow to respond – if at all.
One senior UN official says if this happened anywhere else in the world, the reaction would be very different.
So is the world ignoring another disaster in Africa? And have donors lost interest?
Presenter: Imran Khan
Guests:
NIcholas Finney - Save the Children's Response Team Leader in Mozambique
David Matsinhe - Amnesty International Researcher for Southern Africa.
Mehari Taddele Maru - researcher on peace and security, law and governance in Africa.

I hope people from Mozambique be good, I'm from South America, but I cannot do anything just hope that they're fine. I know that they're Christian Catholic. Sometimes the faith can make people feel peace.

I am mozambican citizen recently shifted from Maputo to Beira. Mozambique is paying for being passive to tackle corruption. The international community (IC) is angry with Mozambique due to bad political management of money. Instead of using for well-being of people, the political leaders keep the money on their own pocket. On the other hand, the major culprit is the IC. How can they donate money and not audit how their money is being used?

This is why we need an African political Union. Imagine they are talking about an African country like this.

When you say “world” you mean the West or Europe? What about the African Union or the Arab League?
