Extreme Heat Builds into Michigan This Week

An extreme heat warning is in effect 2 PM Monday to 8 PM EDT Thursday for dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 105 expected for Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella counties.
EXTREME HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING for dangerously hot conditions with heat index values between 95 and 103 possible for much of Northwest Lower Michigan. This includes Beaver Island and Bois Blanc Island.
Temperatures are forecasted for much of northern Michigan to be in the upper 80's and low 90's for most of the area. The hottest days are likely going to be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with most areas getting into the low 90's, but Monday and Friday will be hot as well, just a touch cooler. It will be a bit cooler right along the lakeshore, but it will be breezy at times as well, especially on Monday as Beach Hazard Statements are in effect at the lakeshore, so it will not be the best idea to go to the lake on Monday.
There will also be a lot of moisture in the atmosphere, leading to dewpoints into at least the mid/upper 60's, if not the low/mid 70's. This means it will be very warm and muggy at night with very little relief with low temperatures staying forecasted to be in the upper 60s and 70s.
With the high humidity and hot conditions, not only will it be feeling very uncomfortable, there is also the chance of showers and storms just about every day. This could lead to, at times, some stronger to severe storms.
During hot and humid conditions this week, make sure to limit time outdoors if possible and staying in air conditioning when possible. If you are going to be outside, make sure to stay in the shade as much as possible, and take breaks, as well as having a buddy system. Make sure to also drink plenty of water and electrolytes, and avoiding sugary, caffeinated, and alcoholic drinks. Do NOT leave anyone in the car, and checking on family, friends, and neighbors, especially those that are more suseptible to the heat, like those with underlying health conditions, elderly, children, and of course, your pets. Do NOT leave pets outside for too long at a time either, as the heat can be more dangerous to the pets than to most humans. Also, make sure to know the signs for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
