Cyclone Anika Prompts Cyclone Warnings in Western Australia and the Northern Territories

Details of Tropical Cyclone Anika at 12:30 pm ACST:
Intensity: category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 85 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 120 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 30 kilometres of 13.1 degrees South, 127.7 degrees East , 175 kilometres northeast of Kalumburu and 235 kilometres west northwest of Wadeye .
Movement: slow moving .

Tropical Cyclone Anika is located in the southern Timor Sea and is moving slowly south. The system is expected to reach category 2 prior to making landfall over the north Kimberley coast overnight or during Sunday.

Anika is now unlikely to take an easterly track towards Darwin, and the Watch for Darwin and the Tiwi Islands has been cancelled.

From late Sunday the system is forecast to weaken over land and move southwest, remaining near the Kimberley coast. If the system moves back over water offshore from the west Kimberley coast there is potential for redevelopment. Additionally if the system moves further west and remains further offshore for longer there is also potential for development of a more intense tropical cyclone.
