South-east Queenslanders have risked the elements to catch a glimpse of massive swells battering the coast as Tropical Cyclone Alfred inches closer.
Wild vision posted online show people lining beaches across the Gold Coast for a front row view as waves consume beachside carparks and popular walking tracks.
A woman was even spotted walking her dogs along a beach before a large wave almost swept one of her furry friends out to sea.
Authorities are urging residents at risk from storm surge and flooding to make use of the additional time from the slowing progress of Tropical Cyclone Alfred and seek alternative shelter.

It should be a rule that anyone going into the surf or onto beaches after they are closed and require rescuing, are on their own and won't be rescued.
