What happens when two of the most iconic bass players of all time cross paths? In this clip, Marcus Miller shares the real story of the first time he met the one and only Jaco Pastorius — and trust me, it’s everything you’d hope for.
From almost replacing Jaco in Weather Report (yes, really), to surprise hotel-room “lessons,” impromptu stage invasions, and the cheeky digs only true greats can throw, this one’s full of jaw-dropping moments, musical insights, and some serious bass brotherhood.
If you’re a bass player, a Jaco fan, or just someone who loves hearing what it’s like when legends meet, this is a must-watch.

“They’re playing, but they are not celebrating what’s unique about the bass guitar.” This is wisdom that can be applied to almost anything. Painting, driving a sports car, driving a nail… Recognition of the techniques that differentiate what you do from what other people do is a sign of someone that’s mastered their craft.

To me Marcus Miller perfected slap bass. No one slaps as clean as him. I'm so lucky to have seen him live twice. He's also such a down to earth guy you just got to love him.

Marcus Miller is one of those guys that SHOULD write a book. Books! Man, this is probably one of the most interesting musicians ever and has been around for ages and played with the top of the top. Such a cool dude!

Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller and Henrik Linder. That would be a great trio for some bass jamming.

"We played it (Continuum) together (he and Jaco Pastorius) and sounded just like that (the original double-tracked bass line on the record). I went home on a cloud" I'm on a cloud just listening to this
