What if Portugal Kept East Timor? #history #whatif #facts #map #portugal #shorts

Descrição

This is perhaps the most realistic way that Portugal could have remained an Empire.

It all started going downhill for the Portuguese Empire in 1961 when India invaded Goa, which encouraged Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau to rebel heavily, with Angola also trying but not being as successful as the first two.

These rebellions evolved into a Colonial War that lasted for 13 years, up until 1975 when the Portuguese dictatorship was toppled.

You may have noticed that the video is automatically translated to your native language. YouTube now does this automatically and you can disable the feature if you'd like. There are some issues now, but in the future this feature will be dope

Honestly, East Timor should’ve stayed in Portugal because the invasion literally happened and it would’ve benefited them economically

"this is how portugal could have stayed as an empire" *proceeds to explain its utter obliteration with no hope of escape*

Quick correction. Portuguese dictatorship was toppled in 25 april 1974, not 1975

The revolution was in 1974 and Macau was portuguese until 1999

They should have focused on Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau and São Tome e Faso. Small countries which could have benefited and the population was small enough for portuguese to go there and be a sizeable presence like the UK and France did with many islands still belonging to them

The fact that Portugal was forced to give up the territories that DIDN'T want to break away after the end of the war is really mean, it's like what US did after the spanish american war.
