Tuesday's extended Cleveland weather forecast: Buckle up! Busy weather week ahead in Northeast Ohio
Descrição
Cleveland weather forecast for January 9, 2024.
We love it when the weather is busy, but even we have limits.
Not one, not two, but THREE major storm systems are forecast to fire up and move through the region in the next seven days. Wind, rain, snow ... you name it, we have it coming.
The hardest parts of these situations is actually trying to keep things straight so everyone can plan accordingly. This is very much a situation that we can tell you when these impacts will be coming in terms of generalities, but the finer details are still TBD.
I'm going to break them down one by one. First up: The storm system we have today.
This storm system is just starting to rev up. Blizzard warnings in the Plains, tornado warnings in the deep South and wind advisories for us here in Northeast Ohio.
A wind advisory has been issued for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula and Trumbull counties. ALL of our counties will be windy, but these locations have the chance to be a little "extra" (as the kids say). Wind gusts over 45 mph will be possible from time to time today (even 50!). We'll find the wind backing down tonight only to crank back up for Wednesday morning. This isn't anything we haven't dealt with before but what will be unusual is a SOUTHEAST wind today.
Interesting side note: So many of our trees grow with structure to resist our prevailing north of west wind. This very gusty southeast wind will be coming from the blind side (to borrow a phrase), so we may have more tree problems than normal. Wednesday's winds will be more westerly as the storm departs.
We are likely looking at an inch of rain (yuck) with a little slushy coating of snow possible Wednesday.
SYSTEM #2: Friday - The Rain Before the Cold
It will approach from the south, it will bring wind and rain, but it will also be the difference maker on the leading edge of considerably colder air.
Track is everything with these storm systems. The Friday storm is currently forecast to come up over the Buckeye State. That means we'll likely have rain AND snow. If it jogs east, we'll get more snow. If it goes west, we'll have more rain.
But that's not really the headline heading into the weekend. The temperature drop that follows is much more exciting. Expect Friday's temperatures to make it into the 40s, then 30s for Saturday and highs only in the low 20s on Sunday. Lake effect snow is a possibility for a period of Saturday and Sunday for areas favored by wind direction.
Much of next week stays frigid. And that is a big part of ....
SYSTEM #3: Monday - The One to Watch
Since we can't get out of this mess with just two storm system and a surge of cold air, let's throw another storm into the mix. The difference with this one is that VERY COLD air will already be here. That means no mixing. Whatever we get will be coming as snow.
This third, potent storm system will be firing up on the fringe of the coldest air of the season to invade the lower 48. This one will (again) be coming out of the southwest, and as always track is everything. This one seems to be more about light snow versus heavy snow -- and it's WAAAAY too early to nail down any details.
What I CAN tell you is that I've told my family it's time to get ready for snow. Winter is about to winter.
Please, PLEASE stay up on the latest from TRUSTED sources on this folks. I know, I know -- it isn't anything we haven't dealt with before, but if you are going to be making plans to be out in it, at least be prepared with good information.
That just so happens to be what we love to do most.
Here is your 3-day Cleveland weather forecast.
TODAY: Early snow mix changing over to all rain. Windy! Temps surge into the mid/upper 40s later in the day
WEDNESDAY: Early rain to snow/mix. Windy and turning colder. Upper 30s
THURSDAY: Mainly cloudy with a few snow showers, especially in our lakeshore counties. Mid to upper 30s.
