Gezani made landfall near Toamasina as an intense tropical cyclone, with winds up to 180 km/h and gusts near 250 km/h.

Across Madagascar, severe impacts were reported:
• Flooding in urban areas
• Collapsed houses & uprooted trees
• Widespread power outages
• At least 9 fatalities and several injuries
