Malawi gained independence from Britain in 1964 after the colonial territory of Nyasaland was transformed into the modern Malawian state. Hastings Kamuzu Banda later consolidated power under a one party political system. In a 1993 referendum, Malawians voted for multiparty democracy, with national multiparty elections following in 1994. But Malawi's story did not end with political transition. Today, the country continues to confront major economic challenges. The World Bank reports that Malawi has faced persistent inflation, foreign exchange shortages, weak economic growth, pressure on household living standards and an economy that remains heavily dependent on agriculture. Point of correction Professor Lumumba the son of Africa; after Joyce Banda professor author peter Mutharika the younger bro to Bingu wa Mutharika served his five years in office from 2014 to 2019 then Chakwera came in year 2019 as a 6th president during his time he dilapidate this country and after his 5 yrs many Malawians including I myself suggested to mutharify Malawi again is now Peter Mutharika currently presiding over the country well known as the warm heart of Africa although people are saying that he's old enough but there's a sense in which history ll remember him fondly. Infact he is Professor Author Peter Mutharika not Patrick. Many of us claiming to say that this is the state of milk and honey (dziko la mkaka ndi uchi) honestly there's no more milk and honey are just only wasps, black mambas (cobra) artificial lightning, looting in an industrial scale, poverty, inquiry and many other vicious things.

Presidential flow went like; H. Kamuzu Banda, then Bakili Muluzi, then Bingu Muthalika who died and succeeded by his vice Joyce Banda to finish the period of his term, then Peter Muthalika(a brother to Bingu Muthalika), then Lazarus Chakwera, and now Peter Muthalika has won again last year's elections
