Descrição

🌪️💨🌬️ Strong winds: beautiful, powerful, and dangerous.

Strong winds are powerful movements of air that can range from sustained gusts capable of damaging property to violent atmospheric events that threaten entire communities. Wind is created primarily by differences in atmospheric pressure: air naturally flows from areas of higher pressure toward areas of lower pressure. The greater the pressure difference, the stronger the resulting wind can become.

The Beaufort scale classifies wind strength from calm conditions to hurricane-force winds. Around 30 mph (13.4 m/s), winds are already strong enough to make walking difficult and can break branches or cause minor damage, while much faster winds can become increasingly destructive.

Severe winds can take many forms. Squalls are sudden, powerful bursts of wind, often associated with thunderstorms. Tropical cyclones, including hurricanes and typhoons, can produce enormous sustained winds, torrential rain, and dangerous storm surges. Tornadoes are violently rotating columns of air extending from thunderstorms, capable of producing exceptionally intense localized destruction. Powerful regional winds also occur because of geography. The bora, for example, is a cold, dry wind that can surge from mountainous regions toward nearby coastal areas.

Weather agencies issue warnings when dangerous winds are expected. Color-coded systems vary by country, but higher alert levels generally indicate increasing risks to people, buildings, transportation, and infrastructure.

When severe winds are forecast, the safest choice is to stay indoors in a sturdy building, close and secure windows and doors, and avoid unnecessary travel. Outdoors, stay far from trees, power lines, billboards, scaffolding, and poorly secured structures. Drivers should park away from objects that could fall or be blown into vehicles.🌕🛰️🤯📡☀️🌞🌍💥🌠
