The Aftermath of Tropical Cyclone 'GEZANI'
Descrição
Arriving on the day that Tropical Cyclone GEZANI made landfall in Southern Mozambique was truly an eye-opening experience to say the least. The path of destruction that it had left was immense with some people saying that it was more intense than the previous big cyclone DINEO which occurred in 2017, with the direction of both cyclones being completely opposite to one another!!
Upon arrival is was straight into operation clean up and repair, with allowing little to no time to take in what had just occurred in our beautiful home! 30minutes of tears and elevated emotions straight to "How can we start to repair this?"
I must truly commend the people of Mozambique - as they don't sit around and wait for help that may never arrive, however they all stand together and help one another, cleaning up the streets, fixing whatever they can fix and trying to restore the villages and surrounding towns as best as possible so that tourism and the economy can continue! We had no power or electricity for the first 4 days as the local service provider EDM started with repairs to the hundreds of powerlines and poles that were destroyed! When they finished with the restoration of these services, there was an incredible sense of relief and joy amongst the community as life could somewhat continue as we once knew it to be!
Once the emotions were all settled, it was time to hit the water in search of post-cyclone waves that were on the rise! I headed out fishing with the local community as well as spent a day scuba diving with Liquid Divers!
