PHILIPPINES Destroyed By Super Typhoon Uwan! Storm Surge Swept Away Homes
Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) carved a destructive path through the Philippines in early November 2025, leaving at least 27 people dead and displacing over 2.4 million residents across 15 regions. The storm’s ferocious winds, torrential rains, and widespread flooding triggered landslides, submerged towns, and overwhelmed critical infrastructure, prompting a nationwide emergency response. Typhoon Uwan made landfall on November 9, 2025, intensifying rapidly into a super typhoon as it swept across Luzon and the Visayas. Packing winds exceeding 185 km/h and dumping relentless rainfall, the storm caused rivers to overflow, roads to collapse, and power lines to snap. The hardest-hit areas included the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and parts of Metro Manila. In Baseco, Manila, hundreds sought shelter in schools and government buildings, while in Cagayan province, entire towns were submerged under floodwaters. In Pandan, Catanduanes province, one of the worst-affected areas, footage and photos from disaster response authorities showed flood waters rising to the rooftops and houses being washed away. In the northern province of Nueva Vizcaya, three children died in landslides and four others were injured, police told the Associated Press. An elderly person was killed in a mudslide in Barlig, a town in northern mountain province. Another landslide in Lubuagan, a town in nearby Kalinga province, killed two people and two others were missing, provincial officials said late Monday. In northern Luzon, where mudslides killed a number of children, civil defence authorities said the ground had already been saturated by heavy rains. Its predecessor Kalmaegi left a trail of death and devastation as it tore through the central Philippines on Tuesday, reducing entire neighborhoods to rubble and displacing tens of thousands of people. At least 188 people were killed, most in Cebu province, a tourist hotspot, local authorities said. Meanwhile, A storm surge linked to Super Typhoon Uwan inundated coastal areas of La Union overnight, damaging homes and businesses that were still reeling from earlier impacts. In San Juan, La Union, the storm surge damaged beachfront establishments along the popular surfing coast before dawn on Tuesday. In Aurora, where Uwan made landfall as a super typhoon, strong winds and heavy rains were experienced on Sunday evening, according to a report of Ian Cruz. Power supply and communication lines were cut. Some cottages and the storage area of surfboards were damaged due to storm surge.
