PORTUGAL Invaded 51+ Countries in the World! #geography #portugal #brazil
Descrição
Did you know that Portugal invaded more than 51 Countries in the world?
Video Transcript:
These are all the countries that Portugal has ever invaded. It could seem like Spanish little brother, but that is wrong. Portugal had at least a small territory in all of these countries. Starting in Africa where they usually sailed it`s the whole west and east coast together with around 28 countries. On the way to Asia we include the whole Arabian peninsula, Iran, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Taiwan, Burma, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and many small countries. On the other side of the world, they of course had a colony in Brazil, but they also had a settlement in Uruguay, Bolivia, French Guayana, Barbados and Canada. Lastly in Europe we have to include Spain, France and the UK, because Portugal has invaded some of their colonies. And that's it. Living in the shade of Spain, Portugal always wanted to show its strength.

fun fact, 65% of times they were actually invited to settle in, being offered portions of land for them to build their trading post. The portuguese Empire, was a commercial empire.

Portuguese people lived by the coast, mesmerized by the ruffed waves of the atlantic, it departured to conquer the seas, tales of this spread an several other nations followed, spain, british mostly and these nations do in fact all share a "conquistador" past. Once even, the portuguese and spain casually split the world in half, this part in mine and this part is yours. This shows their tremendous confidence in their maritime capabilities.

You forgot Canada as part of New Found Land was as a point, a Portuguese fishing colony. Dame with South Africa Lagos in Nigeria was names after Lagos, Algarve, Portugal - there was a different name before that. Also, we did invade Spain even taking over Madrid, but then the French Empire fell and we make a deal of friendship and withdrew to the pre treaty of Alcañices line.
