Night Flight to Ndola: The UN Chief Who Flew Into a Trap

Did the death of a UN Secretary-General change history? We examine the evidence behind the 1961 Ndola crash.

The sudden loss of Dag Hammarskjold during the Congo independence crisis left a power vacuum that redefined African politics for decades. While official records suggest human error or mechanical failure, the timeline of flight SE-BDY reveals a suspicious lack of distress signals and conflicting eyewitness accounts of a second aircraft in the night sky.

This investigation connects the Ndola crash to the immense financial stakes held by mining conglomerates in the breakaway state of Katanga. We analyze why government archives remain sealed, shielding information that could prove whether this tragedy was an accident or a targeted political operation. By examining the gaps in historical documentation, we piece together the truth that decades of inquiry into this Cold War mystery have failed to resolve.
