MIGRANTS FLEE INTO MOUNTAINS AS SA VIOLENCE SURGES

African migrants in South Africa are fleeing into mountains and sheltering in town halls after a surge in xenophobic violence. Reuters reports that migrants from Mozambique and Malawi have been targeted in parts of the Western Cape, with some families too afraid to return home.

Mozambique says five of its citizens were killed in recent anti-immigrant attacks, while South Africa’s president has condemned the violence and announced envoys to other African countries.
