Descrição

The National Weather Service has issued an urgent flash flood warning for New Mexico after heavy rains pushed the McLeod Dam to the brink of failure, driven by intense storms from Hurricane Polo making landfall in Mexico. The emergency alert remains in effect until at least 6.45pm ET, threatening life-threatening flash floods for residents between Garfield and Salem, and anyone traveling along Highways 187 and 390. Officials have urged people in low-lying areas to seek higher ground immediately, with an evacuation center established at the Radium Springs Community Center in Las Cruces, roughly 60 miles from the danger zone. Meanwhile, AccuWeather meteorologists warn that extreme rainfall will persist through Wednesday night as the core of Hurricane Polo crosses the US border, creating what could be the most dangerous flash flood risk in the region in over five years. This severe weather is part of a sweeping "triple flood threat" fueled by Hurricane Polo merging with moisture from Hurricane Odalys and a jet stream dip, bringing heavy rainfall across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and extending flood watches into Utah, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin through Friday, with isolated areas facing up to 18 inches of rain.
