Mutharika Reassures Malawians He Remains in Charge of State Affairs
Descrição
President Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed his control over government, dismissing suggestions that the country is being run through a proxy.
Mutharika made the remarks upon returning from a private visit to South Africa.
He says that he remained actively involved in government business throughout his absence through regular communication with Chief Secretary to Government Justin Saidi and cabinet ministers.
Turning to the persistent fuel shortages, the President said Malawi has fuel supplies available at regional ports, including Tanga and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, as well as Nacala and Beira in Mozambique.
However, he attributed the continued shortages to transportation and logistical challenges affecting the movement of the fuel into the country.
Mutharika said his administration is working to address the challenges, while appealing to Malawians to exercise patience as efforts to improve fuel availability continue.
