🇲🇺 LIVE - Category 5 Cyclone Freddy Nears Mauritius, Warnings Active

Over the past 6 hours, the cloud tops of Tropical Cyclone Freddy have warmed up causing a decrease in intensity according to subjective analysis. However, the eye is still well-defined in infrared and visible images and even clearer with every hour. Freddy is expected to move west-southwestwards until Tuesday, passing north of the Mascarene Islands and making landfall on the Madagascar coast. Environmental conditions are conducive for maintaining significant intensity until landfall, with a possibility of re-intensification over the Mozambique Channel after weakening over Madagascar. The final intensity of Freddy will depend on the duration of the channel crossing. Warnings are in effect in Mauritius, Rodrigues, La Reunion and Madagascar.

What a phenomenal cyclone! Each cyclone season seems to support my very tentative hypothesis about a developing change in cyclone behaviour, which in short claims that there has been a significant migration of TC's away from the Australian mainland. This is for an eastwards migration of Coral Sea cyclones towards New Caledonia 🇳🇨 and the small island states of the SW Pacific. Recent Çyclone Gabrielle 🌀 is a good example of this kind of track. Indian Ocean cyclones ìn particular seem to have made a massive migration westwards which continues to massively impact Madagascar 🇲🇬 , Mauritius and others . So what is good for one is bad for others as is usually the case with major changes.
