Cyclone Gelena is struggling to intensify this evening as it begins a more definite turn towards the southeast. This development increases the chances that the storm will miss Mauritius entirely, but could deliver severe conditions to Rodrigues on Sunday.
Rainfall amounts from this compact storm are not particularly extreme either, with around 50mm expected across Mauritius on Saturday. Nonetheless, flash flooding is still a possibility, with storm force gusts on Mauritius.
In Rodrigues, the storm is expected to begin arriving on Saturday night, and could receive hurricane conditions in the early hours of Sunday along with 100mm of rain or more.
