Cyclone Bheki is prompting warnings as it heads for the Mascarene Islands.
A class II warning has been put in place for the island of Rodrigues, as scattered showers will be moving over, with rainfall becoming steady and even heavy at times through the afternoon. A wind threat is likely also as southeasterly winds of 45 km/h are also expected, with gusts up to 80 km/h gradually intensifying up to 100 km/h during the day. Residents are advised not to venture out to sea as swells will become high by tonight.
A class I warning has also been put in place for Mauritius where the island could experience the same conditions in Rodrigues but weaker. Residents in the area should continue to follow official weather updates and are advised to take preliminary precautions.
