Kruger the Verdict

24/10/2026 · Tusk & Tyre Overlanding

Descrição

Kruger The Verdict is the final test of everything I thought I knew about the Kruger National Park.

I came into this journey believing Kruger was too busy, too commercial and simply not the kind of wilderness experience I look for. But after travelling through the quieter north, that opinion had already started to become much harder to defend.

Now the journey continues from Tsendze to Letaba, Satara and further south.

Along the way we encounter lions deep in the bush, an elephant carcass drawing hundreds of vultures, hyenas feeding while vultures fight for scraps, elephants, buffalo, our only rhino of the trip, a lioness stalking waterbuck and some unforgettable quiet moments where we had sightings almost completely to ourselves.

We also spend time at Tsendze, experience the larger camp at Letaba, explore the roads around the Letaba and Olifants rivers, and continue south as I try to answer the question that started this entire journey:

Was I actually wrong about Kruger?

The answer turned out to be more complicated than a simple yes or no.

Some of the things I disliked about Kruger before are still there. But this trip showed me something I had never really understood before.

There isn’t only one Kruger experience.

And I think I finally found the one that works for me.

Thanks for coming along on this journey.

Stay safe, be humble, and always make a difference.

In Africa, silence speaks louder than words.

Tusk & Tire is a solo overlanding channel rooted in Africa’s wild soul. Created by Corne Tewitz—a father, husband, explorer, and cinematic storyteller—each episode is a journey through dust, wildlife, and reflection.

With over 25 years of 4x4 experience across Africa’s most remote and breathtaking landscapes, Corne captures the emotional truth of the bush—from the east coast to the west, through Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa.

Expect cinematic visuals, spiritual storytelling, and a quiet call to remember what matters: freedom, gratitude, and legacy

“You can’t control the journey — only enjoy the ride.”

Corne its always great watching your videos, they are very informative and well edited. We have very similar views on the Kruger and i limit my visits there as a result of all the things that also annoy you, but unlike you i dont have the patience of Job and just remove myself from the situation completely. For the past 8 or so so years i have only gone to the very same camps that you visited and its only on the back, and side roads that you will find me. The allure of Kruger in the old days is no more unfortunately, as a result of all the commercial green cars ferrying their pax's around the park in an effort to see the big 5. Anywhere from Skukuza south is out of bounds for me, i would rather see just birds up north and no other vehicles than be surrounded by game-viewers that absolutely destroy a nice quiet sighting. Keep up the great work youre doing and thanks again for your clips.

Great video Corne and thank you for sharing your thoughts and knowledge. We feel exactly the same and dislike the South of the park. We are happy to sit for hours in one place and hope that something comes along. Sometimes we get lucky and other times not but that doesn't matter, it's being in the bush, the peace the solitude and the wonder of nature. We don't camp in Kruger as we are from overseas (no camping gear), but we choose to stay in the bush camps which don't have a shop etc and are much more "our thing". We also stay in the main camps further North as sometimes it's unavoidable with our routes etc. Go well and best of wishes on wherever the road takes you.
