Kenneth Kaunda — The Man Who Hosted a War | Zambia and Zimbabwe's Liberation Struggle (Documentary)
Descrição
Kenneth Kaunda is remembered as the founder of Zambia. But in the 1970s his capital, Lusaka, was also the rear base of Zimbabwe's liberation war: ZANU and ZAPU offices, ZIPRA camps, refugees, arms deals, and arguments that split the movement. This film follows Kaunda from Lubwa Mission in Chinsali to the Victoria Falls bridge, the Green Leader raids, the Lusaka Commonwealth summit and Lancaster House — and asks what Zambia paid for hosting a war that was not its own.
He speaks in it himself, with Ian Smith, Joshua Nkomo and the other voices of the moment, subtitled.
Produced by Upright Films.

A NOTE ON THE RECORD
Where the sources disagree, the film says so. The Chitepo assassination is presented as unresolved: ZANU blamed Rhodesia, documents released in 2001 pointed at ZANU's own factions, and Reid-Daly wrote that the CIO ordered it. Casualty figures at Freedom Camp are given as ZIPRA's claim, with Rhodesia's claim alongside. Kenneth Kaunda's own record — the one-party state, the detentions, the detente controversy — is included.
