IT'S NOT OVER: California's Damaged Coast Faces Two More Days of Flooding Tides

28/10/2026 · Eliana Guide Point

Descrição

Right now, on a narrow street in Long Beach, a house is leaning over the Pacific Ocean — and the water that did this is not finished. The storm was Rachel. The damage is real.

The coastal flood warning has now been lowered to an advisory, in effect until 2 PM PDT Tuesday. Forecast high tides peak around 7.1 to 7.3 feet on Monday and Tuesday mornings — lower than Sunday's 8-foot peak — but for a shoreline whose berms, boardwalk and seawall are already broken, every high tide is another test. What is observed vs forecast is labelled in the video; conditions may change — follow the National Weather Service and local authorities.

This film documents what Rachel actually did to the Southern California coast — the shattered boardwalk and red-tagged homes of Seaside Walk, the emergency in Newport Beach, the sandbag siege.
WHAT IS OBSERVED vs FORECAST: The destruction, evacuations, red tags, flooding and emergency declarations shown in the first part of this video are observed and confirmed by the City of Long Beach, the City of Newport Beach and the National Weather Service. The "tomorrow night" tide is a FORECAST — conditions may change. Always follow official guidance from the National Weather Service and your local authorities.
FOOTAGE & SOURCES: Opening destruction sequence and selected B-roll: KTTV FOX 11 Los Angeles and KABC ABC7 Los Angeles news coverage of the Long Beach Peninsula / Newport Beach flooding (short excerpts, muted, used for documentary commentary), City of Long Beach and National Weather Service public information, NOAA satellite imagery (public domain). Additional stock: Wikimedia Commons contributors and Coverr creators (CC/public licenses) — including Grand Canyon National Park, Pacific coast surf and aerial footage. Explainer graphics: Eliana Guide Point. Some sequences are clearly-placed documentary recreations of the locations described.

Update since filming: NWS has lowered the warning to a coastal flood advisory until Tuesday 2 PM PDT. The next tides (7.1–7.3 ft, Mon/Tue mornings) are smaller than Sunday's 8 ft peak — but the Seaside Walk house was already leaning before them. Are you on this coast? What are you seeing at high tide?

why does the loading of all those sandbags look like an exercise in futility
