Hurricane Roslyn with 200 km/h wind hit Mexico! Flooding in Nayarit

A powerful hurricane made landfall in western Mexico on Sunday, October 23, causing heavy rains and flash flooding. Roslyn, a category 3 hurricane, came ashore in Nayarit state, with maximum winds of 195km/h.

The hurricane has since been downgraded to a tropical cyclone and is expected to dissipate overnight. Footages of its aftermath showed flooded roads and upturned vehicles in Nayarit, with collapsed roofs and damaged homes in the worst affected area Tecuala.

Flash flooding also hit the town of Puerto Vallarta in neighboring Jalisco state, where ocean surges lashed the beachside promenade. Fortunately, only minor damage and power outages was caused, according to the state's governor.

Further south along the coast in Sayulita, people were pictured wading through and clearing mud from the streets in the area. Officials were working to restore power in areas that experienced outages. Local authorities urged people to avoid touristic activities at beaches and in mountainous areas over the weekend.

Heavy rainfall was expected to continue in some areas of the storm's path, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. Rain could lead to flash flooding and landslides in areas of rugged terrain, the center warned.
