Giant Waves Hammers Japan! Wind 296 Km/h by Typhoon Champi Devastating Taiwan

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a sequence of maximum-tier emergency weather warnings across southern and southwestern Japan as Typhoon Champi (designated locally as Typhoon No. 30 barrels into the Sakishima Islands. Packing catastrophic wind gusts of up to 216 kilometers per hour (134 mph), massive storm surges, and the severe threat of localized linear rainbands, the storm has completely locked down regional travel, grounded hundreds of flights, and disrupted critical joint international military operations. The southern frontier of Okinawa Prefecture, specifically the Yaeyama and Miyako island groups, is experiencing the most severe conditions. Communities on Ishigaki Island and nearby Yonaguni Island have been placed under structural emergency warnings as the eastern eyewall quadrants brush past. Ocean waves have been officially measured at 12 meters (39 feet). The extreme waves are accompanied by an imposing storm surge that is actively breaching coastal barriers and flooding low-lying fishing harbors and dockside infrastructure. Further north along the Ryukyu arc, Okinawa Island (including the capital city of Naha) and the remote Amami Islets belonging to southern Kagoshima Prefecture are experiencing rapidly deteriorating conditions. Ocean wave profiles around the Amami group are rapidly increasing, with marine sensors tracking waves building to 6 meters (20 feet). In Nagasaki, municipal crews are systematically clearing mountain culverts and reinforcing scaffolding at major commercial shipyards to prevent wind-borne debris hazards. All commercial air operations servicing Naha Airport, Ishigaki Airport, and Miyako Airport have been completely suspended for Friday and Saturday. Over 140 domestic departures and arrivals connecting Okinawa to mainland hubs like Tokyo-Haneda, Osaka-Kansai, and Nagoya-Centrair have been struck from flight boards. The National Fire Agency and emergency response coordinators have officially confirmed one fatality and 171 injuries as the outer bands of the colossal storm thrash the territory. The storm’s sole recorded fatality occurred in southern Taiwan’s Pingtung County. Prior to the system veering directly northeast, catastrophic marine swells began crashing into the coastlines. At an outlying holiday destination, a man was swept away by a sudden rogue wave at a beach situated beneath the famed Beauty Cave in Liouciou Township. Along the exposed northernmost tip of the island in Keelung, the scene has been dominated by relentless, towering ocean swells. Violent waves have consistently breached concrete breakwaters and harbor defenses. Yilan has borne the brunt of Champi’s immediate onshore wind-driven downpours. Ocean waves reaching heights of six to eight meters have severely lashed the eastern shoreline. Further down the eastern seaboard, Hualien County faces an acute geological threat. Vulnerable indigenous and agrarian communities in Guangfu Township are experiencing heightened anxiety. Outside the urban core, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih oversaw the sprawling preventive evacuation of 1,397 residents settled within high-risk, landslide-prone valleys across the Yingge, Xindian, Pingxi, and Shulin districts. Up in the northern mountain ranges surrounding the capital, heavy wind-driven rain has knocked down dozens of power lines and left several high-altitude roads blocked by large uprooted tree branches.
