North Carolina always had control over where these homes were built. In Texas, and many other states, the shoreline is off limits for buildings.

Aw nooo! You’re telling me that building a house in a tidal zone is a bad idea? What about if we took away all the native trees, brushes, grasses, wildflowers and vetches … oh, colour me surprised, that made rising sea levels and soil erosion worse 😮

If you have to build a home on stilts it's likely not the best place to build.
