The south-east Queensland coast has been lashed by major swells, with parked vehicles washed away at popular oceanside venues.
Videos posted online show powerful waves crashing through the beachfront car park at Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club on the Gold Coast, wiping out two cars left there.
The looming weather event has also triggered panic buying in Byron Bay, just south of the NSW and QLD border, with shelves stripped bare at the local Woolworths.

I feel bad. I live in Auckland and was hoping that it wouldn't come our way as the earlier forecast had it hitting NZ, but didn't want this to hit Queensland either. Experienced a cyclone two years ago, it's pretty scary. Praying for everyone over in SE Queensland and Northern NSW. Be safe guys.

Well that's one way to find out getting your car washed away during a cyclone because you chose to park it on the beach is an uninsurable event
