Can a Small Plane Fly to Madagascar in Under 4 Hours?
Descrição
World Tour, leg one: around the world in a single-engine plane. No airlines, no shortcuts.
Can a small plane fly to Madagascar in under four hours? Maputo to Toliara is about 630 nautical miles, almost all of it open sea, and Graham has bet the fuel bill on it.
Marike flies ZS-IMH, the ImmersaHub Cirrus SR22T. They start at dawn at Kruger Mpumalanga, hop over the Lebombo to Maputo for customs, fuel and a life raft, and then the clock starts: chocks to chocks, under four hours or over? A headwind, a climb looking for a better one, the equal-time point and the point of no return, a tempting little island called Europa, a boundary in the middle of the sea, and finally a coast on the horizon.
