Batsirai named, intensifying as it moves west - January 27th 2022

The second storm of the 2022 Southwest Indian Ocean Season has been named Batsirai by MeteoFrance. Currently in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the closest landmass to it will be the island of Rodrigues, Mauritius, and Reunion. The forecast tracks have covered those islands and the storm is forecast to impact the islands several days later. We will be keeping track of the system as it heads west.

This reminds me the 2020/11 Arabian Sea cyclone ( I didn’t remember its name), JTWC and France seriously underestimate it again

Latest run of the GFS wants to drop it down into the 970s prior to any Madagascar impacts and it may yet have a second life in the Mozambique Channel. But all that is over five days away as I type so forecasts can and will change and we have plenty of time to watch this storm.
