The issue isn't the tornadoes not doing damage, just like in Greenfield, June first did a great video going in detail and doing the math to prove their was EF-5 level damage, this is surprisingly common and a surprising amount of tornadoes do inflict EF-5 level damage, many youtubers who are also weather enthusiasts like June first break down the math and prove why many tornadoes did inflict EF-5 level damage. The issue is the National Weather Service and the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Don't forget El Reno, which was rated EF3, but had winds over 250mph and was like 2 miles wide.

MyRadar is great, but as I recall weather is not under human control so we didn't "ban" EF5 tornados. They've always existed and show up randomly. Beyond that Earth's history has lots of extreme weather. 300 ft tsunamis, 280mph tornados, and 250 mph hurricanes. We just weren't around to see them.

The scale is damage based so it rated based on that but there looking to adding radar and video recordings to ratings since with 4k cameras we can do calculations on how fast the funnel is spinning based on HD recordings. Plus with drones we can get high up detailed images of tornadoes.

Don’t mistake the final rating of a tornado for actual strength. For example EF4-175mph doesn’t mean winds were “up to” 175. It means winds of “at least 175 mph were verified at location X. If surveyors feel the construction was such that 175mph was the minimum wind speed required to inflict that damage, even if winds were 300+, it’s going to get the EF4. There just aren’t many homes/ buildings constructed in a manner that complete slabbing needs 200+mph to do it. So, it has zero to do with whether or not we’ve had 200+ mph tornadoes since 2013 (we’ve had quite a few). It’s the lack of possible EF5 DI’s. There’s only a finite number of locations a tornado will receive an EF5 rating regardless of actual strength.
