🌀 Typhoon Dolphin is moving across the East China Sea towards China
Typhoon Dolphin formed on Sunday, 26 July, and has already travelled more than 5,000 km across the western Pacific. On Friday, 7 August, it crossed Okinawa and is now moving across the East China Sea towards the Chinese coast. It is gradually strengthening.
As of Friday, 7 August 2026, at 23:00 China Standard Time (15:00 UTC):
• Location: approximately 550 km east of Wenzhou, China
• Intensity: winds around 170 km/h, with gusts near 205 km/h
• Movement: west-northwestward at approximately 17 km/h
Dolphin will continue moving west to northwest. Warm waters and weak wind shear may allow some further strengthening before gradual weakening begins overnight into Sunday.
Dolphin is expected to make landfall near Wenzhou on Sunday afternoon or evening, with winds around 140 km/h and gusts up to 170 km/h. It should weaken rapidly inland while moving northwestward.
⚠️ Risks for Japan’s Ryukyu Islands:
Heavy rain is expected over the weekend, with local totals exceeding 200 mm on Saturday, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
⚠️ Risks for the Chinese coast:
Conditions will deteriorate overnight into Sunday, especially around Wenzhou and areas to the north.
• Coastal wind gusts: around 170 km/h
• Rainfall: 150–350 mm, locally over 450 mm
• Waves: over 4 m
Flooding and landslides are a major risk.
Follow official warnings and local authorities’ instructions.
