Tropical Storm forming in the Eastern Pacific - Tropical Weather Bulletin August 7, 2022

The tropics are getting fairly active, particularly across the Pacific ocean where another Eastern Pacific cyclone is forming, off the coast of Mexico. This storm is expected to track northwestwards and then turn westwards, away from land, and could peak near hurricane strength. Further west, two areas of interest are piquing interest for the Central Pacific basin, with one of these possibly forming in the next few days as they both track well to the south of Hawaii. An area of interest that has been under close observation for some days near the Philippines is being absorbed into a much larger low pressure system, and could develop into a monsoonal type tropical storm in the South China Sea early next week. The very large system will only have a limited time to establish a dominant center, circulation and convection though, before it makes landfall in southern China, west of Hong Kong. Regardless of development, rainfall totals of 250mm could occur over large parts of western Luzon and southern China. In the Indian Ocean, an area of interest is along the coast of Odisha, India this morning, and will move inland and likely not develop. However, the system could deliver very high amounts of rain exceeding 500mm in many parts of central and western India over the next few days. Finally, in the Atlantic, an area of interest has been marked for possible development near the Cape Verde islands early next week, and could track across a substantial part of the Atlantic, but is not likely to threaten land.
