Thousands flee northern Mozambique as violent attacks surge

Thousands of people in Mozambique continue to flee armed groups linked to the ISIL (ISIS) group.
They have gained ground in northern areas, and accounts of torture and atrocities are emerging.
More than 2,000 people have been killed and 300,000 displaced.
Al Jazeera’s Malcolm Webb reports.

As a Portuguese, this saddens me a lot. My country had a great contribution to Mozambique's impoverishment due to our colonizer past. I wish now we were helping! With the Covid international crises, this massacre has barely been spoken about worldwide. It finally reached our media, but only after Mozambique's government asked EU for aid. We should be press our government(s) to help! Please bring awareness to this matter.

If it doesn't serve the people then it shouldn't serve anyone else. What good are these natural resources if the poverty line still stays the same. Africa needs to learn new economic models fit for their needs otherwise we will see more civil unrest in years to come from disgruntled citizens
