Cyclone Nargis of 2008 was and still is one of the worst tropical cyclones on record. The storm, which formed in late April of 2008 took an odd track for a Bay of Bengal storm, moving eastwards rather than Northwards or Eastwards as is commonly seen in most Bay of Bengal tropical cyclones.
This track unfortunately took Nargis towards the region known as Myanmar, which is a poor region of the world and in this region, most homes are not built to sustain a Category 4 Cyclone which Nargis struck as. As Nargis came ashore on May 2nd, 2008, a large and powerful storm surge swept far inland, and unfortunately Nargis took an estimated 146,000 lives, with some sources saying this estimate may be low. Nargis was a devastating cyclone that will be remembered for decades, and even centuries to come.

I still remember Nargis hit Yangon and Ayeyarwaddy divisions. At that time, I was only 7 years old. My dad and I watched catastrophic disaster on TV. He was mourning and I didn't know what was happening. Recently, a severe downpour has been sweeping through my town. That's the reason I am here.

Not so fun fact: Nargis and the Bangledesh Cyclone both OFFICALLY killed 138k each but unfortunately it's likely these two storms killed even more than that.

I was only 8 years old at the time. I will never forget that scene. The winds were strong and the storm surge was very high. The eye of the storm passed over the city where I lived.

R.I.P my dear Yangon citizens(also cyclone mocha is coming now but I am not worried cause it will never hit my city also any cyclones that enter Myanmar will never hit my city also my aunt said when the cyclone occurred her house roof got blown off and she had to sleep starring at the sky and she had to wait)

ST Haiyan was stronger in windspeed, a cat 5 but, TC Nargis was cat 4 but, the lrrawaddy delta during that time was turned into an ocean 🌊 & killed more than 130,000 victims. Some missing were never found :( RIP
