Texas Storms Pop Up Today; Not-as-Hot Front Brings Relief | Aug. 1

07/10/2026 · David Reimer | Texas Weather Roundup

Descrição

Pop-up showers and thunderstorms are possible across parts of West Texas, the Hill Country, Central Texas and South-Central Texas today as a weak “not-as-hot” front moves south. Most Texans will remain dry, but a few storms could produce dangerous lightning, localized damaging wind gusts, small hail and brief heavy rain.

Lower humidity will make conditions feel less obnoxious across the northern third of Texas this weekend, but this is not a big, bad, very mad cold front. Hot weather continues statewide, especially across southern Texas.

In this Saturday, August 1, 2026, Texas Weather Roundup:

• Where scattered storms may develop this afternoon
• The localized severe-weather risk along the New Mexico state line
• Brief heavy rain and isolated flash-flooding concerns
• Moderate to high fire danger across northeastern Texas
• Lower humidity and cooler mornings for northern Texas
• Sunday and Monday temperature forecasts

Widespread flooding is not expected. Most Texans will not receive rain, but storms that do develop may produce frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and locally strong winds.

Please avoid dragging trailer chains and use extra caution with welding or other outdoor work that could produce sparks. Dry roadside grass can ignite quickly during the hottest part of the day.

When thunder roars, get your keister indoors.

Saturday check-in: Where are you watching from, and what is your current temperature or feels-like reading? If storms pop up nearby, safely let us know about heavy rain, lightning, strong wind or small hail. Northeastern Texas folks, please also report any smoke or grass fires you spot—but contact local authorities before posting here. Most of us will stay dry, so let us know whether the “not-as-hot” front actually made your weather feel any less obnoxious. Today’s question: What HTeaO drink should Baldy try during a future Texas Weather Roundup?

Not so hot fronts lol. We may not get any rain here in SE Texas but we’re enjoying the cloud cover!

I’m in deep east TX and we were 102. Today it was 100 and 29% humidity. We’ve hit 100 and up the past 3 days. Our small area has also had to deal with no water or water pressure so low you can’t do anything. Tonight we finally have some water pressure. We’re allegedly going to wake up to 69 degrees at 7am. That’s a nice change from 90 by 7-8 am.

Not here where I am. It is still humid here. Had to keep my inhaler close.
